Musings of a Millennial

I ran fast
To get away.
But not to win
Or be the best.

I knew I would never
Get there
So I never dared
To try.

I became so accustomed
To losing
That to win
Was foreign.

I ran fast
To get as far
As I could travel.
But I was not running
From someone.

I was running from
Thoughts and fears and memories
That haunted my waking mind
With the force
Of a thousand nightmares.

Try as I might
They always caught up
With me
Because I never ran
To win.
